What material is Xtrema made of?

Xtrema cookware is made of clay, water, natural minerals and oxides.

Is there metal in Xtrema Cookware?

Our cookware is made without elemental metals. Our cookware is 100% ceramic and does not have a metal core.

Does Xtrema contain any lead or other heavy toxic metals?

Our products are not made with lead or other heavy metals. They are not ingredients in our recipe. Since the materials that we source come from the earth, we test every shipment for extractable lead and cadmium in accordance with California Prop 65. Xtrema has passed California Prop 65 standards for lead and cadmium leaching for 15 years. We share and update our test results publicly on our website for our customers to review: https://xtrema.com/pages/product-testing

Is Xtrema non-stick?

Xtrema does not have a non-stick coating. Our cooking surface will become naturally non-stick with the proper oil/fat and heat. Our cookware also does not contain PTFE, PFOA, PFAS, or a "ceramic" coating.

Where does your black glaze come from?

The black color is created from the various minerals and oxides that we use. When they are combined with being high fired they react with each other and then they produce the black color on the outside of our products. Different minerals and oxides will naturally have different properties and colors. A beautiful and unique part of ceramics is combining these natural materials in the right ratios in order to produce certain aesthetic and certain physical feature(s).

What country is Xtrema made in?

Xtrema cookware is handcrafted in China.

Why is Xtrema not made in the United States?

During the product development phase of our cookware we set out with the intention to make our cookware in the United States. With quality as our top priority we found that the quality and innovation coming from our factory in China was much higher than samples that were made in the United States. With over 20+ years of relationships, better access to ceramic materials, a higher quality product, and a 10,000 year history of making ceramics we chose to have our cookware made in China.

How do I clean my Xtrema?

For best results while cleaning your Xtrema cookware you can use any non-metal scour pad or natural fiber scrub brush for more stuck on stains. For gentle cleaning you can use any type of silicone scrubbing pad or brush. Our ceramic surface is harder than metal therefore it cannot be scratched. However, it can leave metal residue or markings behind.

Can I cook with my Xtrema on electric coil, gas and glass top stoves?

Yes, Xtrema works on all these stove-tops. To avoid scratching your glass top surface, do not slide Xtrema cookware. Always use the lowest settings (1 or 2) when cooking with an Xtrema® Skillet. For boiling water or using an Xtrema® saucepan, use a low to medium setting. (3-5) There is no need to go above a medium setting because ceramic by nature will retain the heat. Never heat a dry skillet on medium or high heat. Heat on a low (1-2) setting for one-minute, then add your cooking spray or oil and cook on low.

Can I cook with my Xtrema on an Induction Stove?

Yes, but you would need a special induction disk which is designed to fit on top of the induction burner.

Do I need to season my Xtrema?

No, just wash with soapy water, rinse and you are ready to cook.

Why are the covers loose fitting?

Xtrema’s ceramic material creates additional moisture when heated and the loose-fitting covers allow excess moisture to escape.

Will the bottom of my Xtrema scratch my glass top stove or counter top?

No. The bottom of Xtrema is glazed and polished but we do not suggest sliding Xtrema on any surface.

Do I need to use cooking spray, oil or butter when cooking with my Xtrema?

Yes – we suggest olive oil, coconut oil, vegetable oil or any other quality oil spray. We do not recommend that you use butter since it has a lower flash point and can smoke or burn when exposed to high temperatures.

Is Xtrema Dishwasher Safe?

Yes, but we recommend washing Xtrema by hand because other items in the dishwasher may bang into your Xtrema cookware and chip its surface.

Can Xtrema chip or break if I drop it on to a hard surface?

Just like any other cookware product that is made of glass or ceramic, it can chip or break when dropped onto a hard surface.

Do I cook with Xtrema just like I do any other cookware?

Xtrema is designed to be used on multiple heat sources: stove top, in the oven, under the broiler, in the microwave, on the grill, in a convection oven and in the toaster oven. Low temperatures are to be used and slower cooking. Xtrema retains heat 50% to 70% longer than metal cookware.

Are there any special instructions for storing my Xtrema?

Store Xtrema separately if space permits. However, we sell polyester cookware protectors that will allow you to nest your Versa Pots together without chipping. Do not nest without using our cookware protectors or a towel inside each piece. Another tip is to reverse the covers when storing each pot separately. This will help prevent the covers from chipping.

How do you cook eggs?

When cooking with Xtrema Skillets on your glass top, gas or electric coil stove, please start by using a low heat setting then increase to a low-medium heat. Do Not Go above Medium. It may take a few extra minutes for the Xtrema cookware surface to become fully heated but once it reaches the proper temperature, reduce the heat to a lower setting because the Xtrema cookware will retain heat for a longer period of time. Once the cooking surface is heated on a low setting for 2 minutes then spray the entire cooking surface of your skillet with your favorite oil before turning the burner temperature to a low medium setting. It will take a little practice and patience but, in a week, or two you will become an expert at cooking with our Xtrema ceramic cookware.

Can you use metal utensils?

We do not recommend metal kitchen utensils with our Xtrema cookware. Metal can leach into your foods and because it is softer than ceramic it can leave metal marks on the cooking surface of Xtrema. The good news is that you cannot scratch Xtrema and that these metal marks can be removed by using dry baking soda and a dry nylon scrub pad or dry Brillo pad. Just rub the metal marks away. Rinse with warm water when done.

Can Xtrema Cookware be used on the grill?

Yes, Xtrema cookware can be used on a BBQ grill just like on top of the stove.

Does the teapot whistle?

Our teapots do not whistle. We do not wish to use the materials that are used to produce whistles, but rather keep Xtrema pure ceramic.

Do the handles of the skillets get hot when cooking?

Yes, the handles can get hot so please use pot holders or silicone cooking mitts when handling.
